Artist Studios with Proposition
Community is at the heart of our studios. We host artists with very diverse practices and stages of development and are organised to support them. Studio artists get opportunities to exhibit their work in our gallery, first notification of commissions, employment opportunities, access to professional development coaching and free access to our workshops and public program.
All of our studios are currently occupied, but to add yourself to our waiting list please email apply@propositionstudios.com with details of what kind of space you require (particularly regarding size), and your budget.
Current Locations
Proposition Bethnal Green
Is a dynamic 52,000sq ft cultural hub, located just steps from Bethnal Green tube station. Home to over 130 studio artists and creative practitioners, the site offers 88 purpose-built artist studios.
Housed in the former London Electricity Board headquarters, the building now features three galleries, a 450-capacity performance venue, a lecture hall and cinema room, and a dedicated Physical Arts block offering classes in dance, gymnastics, aerial, martial arts, and boxing - alongside a sauna and ice baths.
With a rooftop space boasting panoramic views of London, the centre will open in spring 2025 with a public programme of free events designed to explore the very depths of who we are, and provoke a reimagining of what we are capable of as a species.
Previous Locations
Proposition Camden
Was a 40,000sq ft art centre immediately south of The Roundhouse, 2 mins walk from Chalk Farm tube. It included 28 artist studios, mostly purpose built, with concrete floors. The majority of studios had windows and are on the 4th floor with a communal area that has a panoramic view of the London skyline. Studio artists were supported by our friendly studio team. There was a large gallery in the building with high ceilings, a performance venue with lounge, a large fashion studio running regular workshops, cinema club, film production offices, a private car park and secure bike storage.
Proposition Shoreditch
Consisted of 10 studios in the basement of a grade II listed red brick building right in the heart of Shoreditch. Shoreditch High Street Overground station was 1 minute walk from the studios. Most of the studios were designed to be open plan in the style often found at art school. There was a strong fashion contingent in the studios, continuing the tradition of textiles and fashion in the local area.
Proposition South Bank
Was created in 30,000sq ft space on the 10th-13th floors of the old ITV studios building immediately on the Thames. It consisted of 100 artist studios, an on site gallery, event space and photography studio. Almost all of the studios had panoramic views from the epicentre the city, from St Paul’s to the London Eye. We also relocated our immersive labyrinth of 19 different worlds, Terra Nexus, to South Bank, for its second showing.
Proposition Peckham
Was created in a 22,000sq ft warehouse off the Old Kent Road. It housed 35 individual artist studios, a recording studio and a large open plan shared studio of 4,000ft2. Also contained there was an on-site gallery, a large communal area doubling up as a basketball court, a tranquil rest and reception area and an outdoor communal area. This was the original location where our acclaimed immersive show, Terra Nexus, was built and opened to the public.
Proposition Holloway
Was a collection of 6 large warehouse style studios converted from the garages of a defunct army barracks for the Royal Engineer Corps. The studios were situated in the centre of a private 1 acre tarmac yard where we hosted a sculpture garden exhibition with performance that was streamed online, ‘Ritual for a New Regime’, by Cole Projects
